Understanding 2.4 and 5GHz WiFi

People often assume that 5GHz is better than 2.4GHz, like comparing 4G with 5G. But this is incorrect. They are designed for different needs.

Many WiFi enabled devices, such as weather stations, utilise the 2.4 GHz band as it offers greater coverage. Unlike tablets, phones, or gaming consoles, these devices consume minimal broadband width and data, making the 2.4 GHz band a more suitable choice due to its longer range. The 5 GHz band, on the other hand, is designed to deliver high speeds, perfect for video streaming and gaming, the trade-off being its coverage is more limited.

All mainstream broadband providers and routers offer dual-band options, allowing you to have both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands activated simultaneously. This feature enables you to configure your devices in the most optimal way, meeting their individual requirements.

Easy to set up, well made. Only the linking to the internet difficult.

Unfortunately it broke after one day whilst attempting to upgrde its firmware....

Well packaged and easy to assemble with the clear instructions, I also downloaded the available PDF instructions from the website. The outdoor sensor unit and internal display are great quality.

Set-up was straight forward and worked exactly as described. Connection to WiFi and various weather services was also easy and worked without a problem.

Very happy and recommended.

Excellent weather centre

Works extremely well. Straight forward to set up with a good app. Easy to use display & links well with ProWeatherLive, WeatherCloud & Weather Underground. So far so good.

Bresser 7003800

We'd had a previous Bresser weather station which, after many years, started to eat batteries every month or so, then ceased to work completely.

We'd no qualms about buying the 'updated' model with added light intensity and UV sensors, especially as it suggested we might get up to 2 years' battery life. I guess we'll see about that in due course.

Set up was relatively straightforward (though having to register with 2 different data servers was a pain, the old one was on Wunderground alone, and having to go QR code/app/laptop for the install seems more complex than it needs to be) and we were soon up and running. There was minimal, but not zero, swearing.

The display is clear and all is working well. It's cheerfully burbling away in the background, supplying all the data we could wish for.

Excellent Product

Very easy to set-up including linking to ProWeatherLive. Delighted with the display. Overall, great functionality and high build quality.

The weather station is excellent but, I cannot link to a weather server.

The weather station appears to work very well but, despite following instructions faithfully a cannot link to a weather server. I have tried ProWeatheLive - many times - and also WeatherCloud. I get told to 'Please set up your weather server in WS-Link setup app', which I have done - many times.

So I cannot see my weather station readings on a laptop or phone, and I cannot see a weather forcast on the weather station console. Which was one of the main reasons I bought the device.

I am, therefore, a bit disappointed.

Delighted

Opted for the more expensive Bresser 7-in-1 kit, to replace a cheaper old Oregon unit that had failed after a few years of good service. So far I have been delighted with it. (It's not yet installed on our roof, but outside in the garden). Arrived promptly, easy to set up, clear Instruction manual, and all works well. The display is great.
